A list of silly things I don’t appreciate

14 February 2026 ·

Following up on this post from Andrea Contino, which appeared in my RSS feed last week, here is my list of 10 “first-world problems” I don’t appreciate.

  1. People who don’t close a door after walking through it.
  2. A dual-monitor setup where the monitors are connected vertically and aren’t horizontally aligned.
  3. People who call on a speakerphone in public.
  4. People who misbehave toward public servants and hospitally personel.
  5. LinkedIn, the place where everyone has the best job/employer ever until they sign up for their next job. It’s one big show-your-ego network.
  6. People who show up late.
  7. Audio messages instead of a text message.
  8. A desk that isn’t properly organized.
  9. PowerPoint presentations where the slide content isn’t aligned to the grid and where consistency is missing from slide to slide. You’ll lose my attention right away.
  10. Emails from non-native English speakers that are full of em dashes (—). I know within a second that you didn’t write the response yourself.

[My Day in Three](https://schoonens.social/categories/mdit/) for today:

1. I worked a little on my [/about](https://camiel-backup.schoonens.nl/about/) page in the afternoon.
2. I’m tired after working 6 days last week. I recovered on the couch by watching the men’s 500m speed skating. The race between Jenning de Boo 🥈 and Jordan Stolz 🥇 was epic.
3. The kids aren’t home tonight, so my wife and I cooked together, enjoyed a nice glass of wine, and had more than enough time to catch up on everything I missed at home last week.

[My Day in Three](https://schoonens.social/categories/mdit/) for today:

1. 🛫 Prague – Amsterdam 🛬
2. I worked all morning on my email while traveling back home. Catching up on a week’s worth of email has never been fun, but it does make you feel productive.
3. Once I got home, I didn’t do anything anymore except spend time with my family and have a drink with friends to celebrate the start of the weekend.

[My Day in Three](https://schoonens.social/categories/mdit/) for today:

1. It’s been a long, intense, and stressful day, but I’m glad how everything came to an end today in Prague. My presentation on stage went well, and I received good feedback from clients and colleagues. What was very cool was that the production team played my favorite song this morning, just before the final rehearsal at 8 AM. It really brought my energy to where I needed it to be.
2. We closed up our client event here in Prague in the National Museum. I’m grateful for the opportunity, as it’s not often that you get to visit a museum after hours combination of good food and classical music in the old building created a great atmosphere.
3. Once back in the hotel, I packed my stuff. I’m looking forward to being back with my family after six days away from home.

[My Day in Three](https://schoonens.social/categories/mdit/) for today:

1. Today is day 1 of our [annual ReThink conference (LinkedIn)](https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23adprethink&origin=HASH\_TAG\_FROM\_FEED). I’ve enjoyed the client conversations I’ve had today.
2. I am presenting on the main stage myself today. As my presentation still had some last-minute adjustments, I did more rehearsals this afternoon and another final one tomorrow at 8AM. While I enjoy this part of my job, it is also stressful and exhausting as everything needs to be perfect.
3. I’m back in my hotel room tonight because I didn’t attend the events this evening to be well prepared for tomorrow. Just like in the past few days, I’ve watched the Olympics again tonight and enjoyed the men’s 1000 m speed skating. Unfortunately, the Netherlands could only secure a silver medal today.
